Visitors for the weekend

|

IMGP2739.pngTim and Gabriel were in New York this weekend so I got to hang out with them Sunday afternoon.

David and Susan took a break from unpacking to meet us. I learned that Tim went to highschool with David; and they both hung out with my dad in his earlier days. I also learned my dad did a few stupid things in highschool that I'll have to remember when my time comes up.IMGP2736.png

Happy birthday aunt Mary!

An ambassador for New York

|

My mom's uncle Brian and cousin Tony were in town for a day so I took them around to see some sights.

We started downtown near the World Trade Center site; then walked over to Trinity Church, down Wall Street by the New York Stock Exchange and over the the harbor to see the Statue of Liberty. Then we took a boat ride on the Hudson up the west side of Manhattan to and had lunch near Madison Square Park. The line at Sake Shack was long, so mom had to forget about the beloved Chicago Dog, and we had a great lunch at Live Bait._MG_7740.png_MG_7742.pngAfter lunch we took the subway up the east side and walked into Central Park. We wandered through the great lawn and down to the Plaza "Hotel" even though it's now condos. By then it was getting dark; perfect for a visit to the "Top of the Rock" at Rockefeller Center. Which I highly recommend over the Empire State Building, no lines and better stroller access._MG_7745.pngI was in a stroller all day getting pushed around, but I imagine my feet would've been hurting if I were walking.

Congratulations are in order

Friday was a busy day for David & Susan; they moved into their new house and got engaged. Congratulations!IMGP1130.pngTo be clear, this is NOT a picture of their new house.

West Indian Parade

|

This afternoon my parents and I checked out the West Indian Parade. The parade is the last event in an week of Caribbean celebrations defined by fantastic costumes._MG_7653.png_MG_7683.png_MG_7693.png_MG_7703.png_MG_7708.png_MG_7672.pngObviously any event in New York that draws over a million people will have the NYPD out in force. I was chatting with officer friendly here and offered to let him play with my sippy cup if he would let me play with the shiny thing on his belt. He said "no".

_MG_7675.png_MG_7685.pngOn parade day the J' Ouvert starts at 2:00 am. Maybe I'll get up for it next year if my nap schedule doesn't conflict._MG_7694.png_MG_7692.png

After the parade, we walked through Prospect park. _MG_7715.png_MG_7725.pngIncidentally, I learned the green film is naturally occurring "duck weed" rather than toxic sludge as I previously suspected._MG_7721.png

Getting out of the city for a day

|

I met my cousin Jack out at our other cousin's house near the Great South Bay, the channel between the southern coast of Long Island and Fire Island.

There was a barbecue, a boat ride and everyone was amazed at how big Jack and I were... Which was strange, from what I could tell it's clear Jack and I were the smallest people there._MG_7606.png_MG_7608.pngIMG_7596.pngJack is a few months older than I am, so he got to drive the boat. Mom told me I had to wait until next summer. Whenever I ask to drive something my parents usually remind me I can't reach the pedals; but boats don't HAVE PEDALS!
